Bathroom layouts: Get the most out of your bathroom size

To help you make the most of your bathroom, we've looked at the most popular styles. You'll know how important it is for your bathroom to be well-planned, regardless of whether you're just starting out or are an expert.

To achieve a functional and beautiful space, it is important that everything is sized correctly and fits in your bathroom. We've covered 5 common bathroom sizes to help you make informed decisions.

Downstairs Toilets

The downstairs toilet is usually the smallest bathroom size. They are often the most neglected bathroom when it comes to renovations. They are far more important than people realize. They are not only the most important bathroom on the ground floor but they also tend to be the most frequently used by guests. It's essential that you leave a lasting impression by making your bathroom as functional and attractive as possible.

The minimum size of a toilet room in the UK is 70cm by 130cm. It is possible to make it work, especially if you only need a toilet or a basin. However, we recommend that your bathroom layout allows for at least an 80cmx140cm down-side toilet. Although it may seem like a lot, an extra 10cm will make your toilet feel larger, especially for taller people.

Compact Ensuite Bathrooms

The layout of the bathroom will determine how big your ensuite bathroom is. You don't have to sacrifice the luxury of an ensuite bathroom if you are concerned about the space needed. There are many options that can be made to make them smaller, with some options nearly as small as the minimum size toilets. However, you will need to carefully choose the fixtures and fittings.

We recommend that you abandon plans to add a bathtub to your small ensuite. To give the illusion of a larger space, you'll need to make sure that there is enough floor space.

Quadrant Shower Enclosure

Minimum size for an ensuite bathroom is 1m x 2. You should have enough space to fit a toilet, basin and shower enclosure. As long as the options aren't too complicated.

Bathrooms for small spaces

There are many options for small bathrooms if your bathroom layout allows for it.

To make your space more cohesive, we recommend choosing a small bathroom suite. You can find attractive packages, such as this one by Cove, that include a bath tub, a toilet, and a basin. They are all priced at an affordable price.

Shower Set with Bath tub

There are tons of compact baths that can be found, with sizes starting at 1200mm x 600mm. These may not be suitable for taller people. If this is the case, consider a shower enclosure. It is not a wise decision to compromise comfort or convenience.

Family Bathrooms

The layout of a family bathroom should maximize the space available and not become cramped. Make sure you consider ease of use when making your choices and make sure to choose products that are suitable for everyone in your family.

To increase safety, you should make sure that your family bathroom has designated storage areas for towels and other toiletries. Consider adding a heated towel radiator to your bathroom and a wall-hung bathroom cabinet. This will keep any potentially dangerous items out of reach for children and your floors clean.
